Keeping the Light

Very few people showed kindness to a young teenager living on the street.  Sleeping in boxes, in stairwells and under highways, Daryl faced winters and summers hungry, cold and tired.  Begging worked sometimes, but not always.  He'd offer to sweep someone's storefront in exchange for a few dollars whenever possible.

Homeless shelters can't always afford to feed everyone in need.  Many homeless eat out of garbage cans or anxiously wait for restaurants to close because often food that has been cooked will be thrown away.

For the most part, they are invisible to the eyes of everyone around them.  Or if they are seen and noticed, they are looked at with disdain.  Often they face people's anger simply because they exist.  In these modern times the homeless are victims of vicious beatings and even murder usually by young people just because.  They are at the bottom of the food chain and suffer greatly because those that have choose not to share and not to help.

"Keeping the light" became a common phrase for Daryl Hayott.  It means to pass it on.  Help somebody else in any way that you can.  Ignite the spark in someone else so that there is a growing chain of light that continues to grow as it is passed on from person to person.

The goal of our KEEP THE LIGHT FOUNDATION will be to help the invisible people, the homeless, the children -- those who have been thrown away by their families and our society.  Stay tuned because we will keep you posted as the foundation develops.
